The Pixel 7a is said to arrive with a 90Hz display, wireless charging, and a better camera

It’s early, but we’re already getting information about the Pixel 7a from Google. The phone is said to have a 90Hz display, a new camera, and more.

The Google Pixel 6a was a good device, of course, like any phone, there are always things that could be improved. But for the price, especially at its discounted price, it is a good way to get a phone that always has the latest version of Android. Although it’s been a while until we see a successor, the news is now pouring in, giving us a first glimpse of what to expect with the Pixel 7a.

As of now, it’s working on the Pixel 7a under the codename “lynx,” which we first reported on in September. According to Kuba Wojciechowski, who has been known in the past for reporting early and accurate information, he has shared that the upcoming Google Pixel 7a will come with a 90Hz display, wireless charging capabilities and an all-new rear camera.

Wojciechowski discovered this information by researching camera drivers and found that the ‘lynx’ was indeed associated with a mid-range phone with a camera setup called the ‘Pixel 22 Mid-range’. Google is apparently making driver updates, with its latest change removing reference to GN1, which was a nickname used for the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and its Samsung sensor.

As the driver becomes more avatar and removes its placeholders, the revised code removes the previously seen telephoto, and now only shows two cameras, “l10_wide” (IMX787) and “l10_UW” (IMX712). The Pixel 6a currently uses a Sony IMX363 sensor, and if the new driver information can be counted on, it looks like it will be changed to a Sony IMX787 sensor, which should be a huge improvement.

In addition to the information above, it appears that the upcoming phone will likely come with wireless charging. This is quite exciting, considering that none of the previous Pixel a-series devices had the ability to charge wirelessly. For a bit of bad news, so far, according to Wojciechowski, it looks like the wireless charging speed will be limited to just 5W. Of course, this can change, but if it doesn’t, it’s at least better than nothing.

Regarding the recent major change, Wojciechowski was unable to share a source but said that the upcoming Pixel 7a will benefit from Samsung’s 90Hz 1080p panel. Of course, it’s all very exciting, and if all the improvements pay off, Google might have a somewhat attractive mid-range phone if they can also offer the Pixel 7a at under $450.
